All of the cards are meant to be laminated (recommended laminate thickness: 90-125 micron).
The letters and the pictures need to be cut along the black edges (approx. A5). This produces 26 loose letter cards and 26 loose picture cards.
Sides or cards to be bound into a booklet: none

Letter-sound and sound-letter correspondence by matching pictures to letters. Lower and uppercase letters. Alphabetical order when used in conjunction with ABC Poster (big)

The ABC cards are particularly suited to pupil-teacher conversations / dialogue. The material is ideal for familiarizing the child with letter-sound and sound letter correspondence and to support aural and visual discrimination.

Before you begin:
To work with this material, the children require:
possibly the material 'ABC Posters' or 'ABC Booklets'. They provide the 'first period' of the 3-period lesson (presentation).

How to use:
In contrast to the 'ABC Booklets', the 'ABC Cards' are loose and can be paired up, offering 'second period' work (recognition). By using one set of cards only, the child can move to 'third period' (mastery).
The children can also introduce the letters to each other (or to an adult), and show which ones they are familiar with and which are new to them. They can lay out the letters in alphabetical order and then match the pictures to them (or visa-versa). The 'ABC Cards' can be used together with the 'ABC Booklets' in pair work. For example: one child can show a picture / letter in the booklet, and the partner must find the matching card.

Control of Error:
The materials 'ABC Posters', 'ABC Poster big' or 'ABC Booklets' can be used.

Additional information:
This material is very good for reception classes. The children can display what letters they are already familiar with.
Game: one child lays out 5 letter cards and the matching pictures below them. The other child memorises this, then looks away while the first child swaps the position of two picture cards. The second child must then say what has changed. The difficulty can, of course, be increased.
The cards can easily be used for other memory games.
