PLEASE NOTE!
When delivered, our products are neither cut nor laminated. The accessories, like perspex boxes, file caskets and so on, that are sometimes shown in the catalog, were only taken to demonstrate a possible use of our items. They are not part of the item itself and not included.

Preparing the material:
All of the cards are meant to be laminated (recommended laminate thickness: 90-125 micron).
First trim the edges of the laminated cards, then cut exactly down the middle to get 2 A5 cards.
Copy the template on colored card, laminate, cut out the 7 pieces of the tangram, and store in a bag or box.
Alternatively, give individual children non-laminated templates to work with, cut and stick.
Sides not to be laminated: none
Sides or cards to be bound into a booklet: none

Teaching content
The children become familiar with geometric shapes and become able to discriminate between the lengths of sides in order to match pieces. This material develops spatial awareness and figure-ground discrimination.

Possible Applications:
Free work, individual work, pair work, small group work.
The puzzle can also be used for 'caroussel' work, where the children move around the room from one workstation to the next.

Before you begin:
To work with this material, the children require:
a floor mat or felt board, possibly a wooden tangram (better than a card tangram), glue and scissors (for making a booklet or other shapes).

How to use:
The children can lay out a tangram figure using the pattern on the index cards as reference. They can then cut out another set of pieces, copy their original figure, and glue it into a booklet. Depending on the children's spatial awareness, they can either work with the cards that display the composition of the figure, or just with the A4 poster which does not.

Control of Error:
The material enables the children to check their own progress as they work.

Additional information:
Many children enjoy working with puzzles, as they find them both interesting and challenging. The children's spatial awareness is tested here. The digit templates are particularly suited to children aged between 5 and 6 years.
There is a large selection of books with many different figures of varying difficulty that can be used to complement this material. However, from experience, even the easiest of these figures are too advanced for beginners. It is for this reason that I have designed and put together this material with figures which allow the children to see how the pieces should be laid.
The children are free to come up with their own figures, and glue these into their booklets.
